We watched lightning in the distance inch toward us until it and torrential rain arrived as we walked the four blocks under tall trees from a restaurant to our home, where we were happy to be and where tomato plants were overjoyed.

It's the Mae West of clotheslines.

Yesterday, Pete resurrected the clothesline, which was damaged during a fall storm and later snapped like a thing that snaps in two useless pieces. Today, it stands as a tribute to Pete’s ingenuity, in stark contrast to the still visible damage from when the renter kid next door accidentally set a fire with cigarette butts and stupidity.
